Get to know Dr. Rick Bartlett O.D.

When did you know that you wanted to be an optometrist

My high school friend talked me into majoring in pre-optometry with him at UNCC. I had never even had my eyes checked before, but it sounded interesting.

Favorite part of being an optometrist

The most satisfying to me as an optometrist for 40+ years, has been the opportunity to diagnose previously undetected systemic conditions in several patients that could have been fatal or lead to blindness. That definitely builds a bond with your patients and their families.

Favorite vacation

Anywhere in the Caribbean with sand and blue water!

Favorite concert you’ve been to

Hall and Oats with Train. Even my adult kids liked the old guys.

Do you have any pets?

My wife likes rescuing dogs so we typically have a house full. Our latest is a Schnauzer-Tzu mix...best dog ever.

Fun fact

I grew up in Asheville, NC.  I’m married to the former Carolyn Poston of Statesville.  I've participated in several medical mission trips to Mexico and most recently traveled to Haiti with Hope for Haiti's Children Ministries. I’m an avid Tar Heel fan, play USTA league tennis, and serve as an elder at Northview Church of Christ.
