When did you know that you wanted to be an optometrist

I've known I wanted to be an optometrist for as long as I can remember.  I started wearing glasses at the age of 2 and have struggled with clear vision my whole life. I also have a cousin who was born with ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) and watched the challenges he faced because of his poor vision and the way that his optometrist really  helped him capitalize on the vision he did have.  I knew that optometry would be a career field where I could truly make a difference in the lives of those in my community.

Favorite part of being an optometrist

Being an optometrist gives me a unique opportunity to really get to know my patients on a personal level and to become a trusted part of their medical team.  Helping my patients meet their unique visual needs and seeing the positive impact that can have on their lives gives me great joy.  It is very rewarding knowing that I've helped someone improve the overall quality of their life.

Favorite vacation

My favorite vacation spot with my husband and kids would definitely be camping in the mountains.  There's nothing better than hiking all day and sitting around the campfire at night (s'mores anyone?!?)  If it's a mom weekend away, I'm heading to the beach with my sister and friends!

Favorite concert you’ve been to

I have always loved a wide variety of music so picking just one concert could never happen.  My most memorable concerts would have to be either my first Dave Matthews Band concert or my first Avett Brothers show, both awesome!

Fun fact

I grew up in a small town in Eastern North Carolina (Ayden) where we are well known for our BBQ and Collard Festival.

I'm blessed with a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful kids-all red heads!
