Favorite part of being an optometrist

My favorite part of optometry is seeing a child’s face when they put their glasses on for the first time. There’s nothing better than being in optical to see the moment they first look out the window and are able to see the leaves on the trees; it’s amazing!

Favorite vacation

I’m super partial to a white sand beach and clear waters. Nothing beats the salty breeze and the waves lapping the shore…can I go now!? For a quick weekend trip, I LOVE NYC! The hustle and bustle, the food, the shows; maybe I could’ve been a New Yorker in another life.

Favorite concert you’ve been to

Although I’ve been to some pretty great shows (i.e. Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, Aerosmith, James Taylor), I’d have to say my favorite was Kids Bop in Raleigh May 2017. My daughter, Eliza, loves Kids Bop, and I decided to take her to the concert for a girls’ night out. She danced and sang at the top of her lungs for the entire show. It was so special to share the experience with her, and I wouldn’t trade if for all the “grown up” concerts in the world.

Family

My husband, Matt, and I have been together since high school. He is the best husband and father I could’ve imagined for the kids and me. He knows when to be silly, when to be loving, and when to be stern. He’s super driven at work and super laid back at home. He and I are a perfect balance since I’m kind of Type A and a control freak. We have two amazing kids. Eliza is 11 and she is full of energy, spunky, determined (aka hard-headed), and as personable as anyone can be. She makes friends everywhere she goes, and she could talk to a wall (wonder where that came from?). She cares about others, and has a knack for making people feel loved and special. She’s wonderful. Parrish is 7 and is all boy. He loves anything to do with sports, and loves to mow the grass. He would get a haircut every Saturday morning if his daddy would take him, and he wants to clean his shoes every night after he wears them. He loves to snuggle up on the couch, and he tells you he loves you all the time. He has the sweetest heart, and a great sense of humor. He’s the best.

Do you have any pets

I have two cats named Ruby and Gracie that are pretty spoiled and love me to no end. They both sleep on me (yes, one over my head, and the other at my feet). Although we want a puppy, my husband is currently playing the “bad guy” and saying no since they are so much work. I’m okay with that though…who wants to be the bad guy anyway?

Fun fact

If I weren’t an optometrist, I’d definitely be a party planner. I LOVE when its time to start planning my kid’s birthday parties. I tend to go overboard, but Pinterest makes you feel like you can do anything, right? I love deciding on a theme, making the decorations, designing the invites, making food labels, and finally seeing it all come together. I’m pretty sure my kids have no idea how much work goes into their parties, but one day they’ll look back on the pictures and see that I did a pretty doggone good job.
