Dr. David MacDonald, O.D.

Dr. MacDonald is originally from Anderson, SC. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree, with honors, from Clemson University in 2012.
He earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, in 2017. Upon graduation, he returned to South Carolina and became a part owner of 3 well established practices in upstate SC. His passion for serving those in need has led him on numerous mission trips overseas, providing eye care in clinics in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Kenya, and Egypt. He serves as Vice Chair of the Board for Servants for Sight, a non profit group focused on providing eye care to those in the local community who are underserved. He also serves as a clinical director for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes program, providing eye care services to the special needs population at Special Olympics events. Having grown up with an older brother with cerebral palsy and autism, he loves being able to work with individuals with special needs. In his free time, he enjoys sports, gym time, live music, the outdoors, and raising his Giant Schnauzer (Mac) and Bichon (Winston).

When did you know that you wanted to be an optometrist
Growing up with a brother with special needs, I had a passion for healthcare from a young age. After I graduated from college, my brother (also an optometrist) motivated me to shadow an Optometrist and I immediately fell in love.
Favorite part of being an optometrist
Building relationships with my patients and their families. I love working with people and getting to know them on a personal level.
Favorite vacation
A toss up between the mountains of Montana and Barcelona.

Guns N Roses in Barcelona!
Do you have any pets?
I have a Giant Schnauzer named Mac and a Bichon named Winston.


Fun fact
I am currently in the process of getting my private pilot's license. I once sunk a putt from half court in the middle of an NBA game.
